Paul Reed Smith Singlecut - PRS Guitar Review
63If you are looking at the Singlecut Paul Reed Smith guitars, you will find that they some of the most playable awesome packages of value and features. Priced at under $1000 USD, you still get a mahogany body, maple top and humbucker pickups! Not to mention, it’s a PRS guitar which are obviously some of the best and most recognized on the market.
Tone and Sound Quality
Given the combination of a mahogany body and humbucker pickups, it is not surprising that the tone of the PRS Singlecut guitars really stand apart. I find the sustain to be comparable to the higher end Paul Reed Smith guitars, although if you are playing really loud you can tell the difference. Still the tone is very precise, and with a nice amp combination you can hit some sounds that will make just about anyone take notice.
Blues, rock and country players will really dig this guitar, and I will say that overall it is very versatile. The bridge pickup has plenty of bite where as the neck pickup will give you more of a warm sound. When I play this guitar I lean directly towards some heavier crunch rock, playing in combo with a Mesa Triple Rec.
Specs and Features
Your Singlecut Paul Reed Smith is stock with a mahogany body, carved flame maple top and a mahogany neck. You have the standard PRS stoptail bridge and non-locking tuners, which makes for ease in string replacement and more reliable playing. The Singlecut is setup like a dream, and you will find that the guitar rarely goes out of tune.
The tones are separated between the two pickups, and you have a 3 way toggle.
The guitar itself has 22 frets, and the playability is very nice. Overall it is very light weight and almost feels like an extension of your body when you are playing live. One side note, they are made in Korea, so the setup is not as incredibly precise as other high end Paul Reed Smith guitars.
Most will come with a nice gig bag, which is a huge added bonus for the musician on the road.
A PRS for under $1000
As I mentioned, the Paul Reed Smith Singlecut guitars are usually retailed under one thousand USD. This is an incredible value for the money, and I can’t believe someone can own a PRS of this quality for that price. If you look online you can actually find some deals below $500!
